Packing up and heading back.
We’ll, tomorrow I head back to Ft. Leonard Wood after a much needed 2 week break. It has felt pretty surreal being home. It’s as if I’d never left to begin with. The last 4 months have flown by and I know these next 35 days will as well. 35 days is all I have left of my training. I still remember when I had 35 days until I got to come home for Christmas, and even that dosen’t seem so long ago. I will get to come back next year, travel a bit, start college, and for the most part, live a normal life again. I really can’t imagine how it is going to feel going back tomorrow. I am sure it will be quite similar to the feeling I had coming home to Georgia. As if I had never left. For 3 and a half months of my life Fort Leonard was all I knew. I even reffered to my barracks as “home” a few times without even thinking about it. Needless to say I am ready to go back and knock out these last few weeks of training. I have it easy compared to most in my company. I have the luxury of coming home after training. Most will be sent off to their units or even deployed overseas. In some ways I wish I was in their shoes but I am content with the decision I made and plan to follow through with it. I will be deployed eventually and will be able to live out that experience.
I had fun hanging out with everybody these last couple weeks. It was great to see everyone again. I’m looking forward to being back permanately in 5 weeks. I still plan on taking my trip to South America in March/April. After I get back I will look to settle in to school, job, etc. I know this post has been just rambling but I wanted to write before I left. Thanks for all the support and I look forward to seeing everyone when I get back, Happy New Year!
I almost forgot. I know before I left I started doing movie reviews on the movies that I saw as they came out in the theater. I forgot and have seen like 5 movies since I have been home. Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, Zombieland, It’s Complicated, and Brothers. I really can’t complain about any of them. They were all good. Avatar is worthy of all commotion and will probably go down as one of the best movies of 2009. Brothers was surprisingly good. I am not a big fan of Toby Mcguire or Jake Gyllenhal (no idea how to spell his name) but they both deliver a pretty solid performance in this one. Sherlock Holmes was about what I expected. Robert Downey Jr. portrayed Holmes perfectly and was very entertaining in his role. I know this isn’t nearly as thorough as my other reviews were but it will do. Thanks again.
