Taekwondo Sparring????

I have a question about tkd sparring....I am a yellow with green stripe belt ( almost green belt) and I was put into the bracket of Blue belt sparrers. ( They were atleast three belts ahead of me, and all taller and older than me) I fought against one girl who was taller and older, and I got to a sudden death tie. She scored first, (although I did a front leg roundhouse and I felt my foot kick her hogu) and I lost. Is this fair to place a Almost Green belt against higher ranked blue belts who are older and taller?
This was a tournament. I lost the first fight.

Being taller than you has nothing to do with anything. The age factor can be considered if it's more than 1 year.

If you were sparring at a tournament, then they put you with the closest competition they had for you. If no one else in your division registered, then they have to put you somewhere to give you a match.

What they usually do, is they declare you the winner of your division, give you a trophy, then give you an "exhibition" match against someone of a higher belt.

Personally, I don't like that system. I think that what they did for you was the right thing. They put you against some competition that was a little older and little more experienced than you, and you did well. You almost EARNED a trophy or a medal, rather than getting a hand out.

Be proud of yourself and remember, your belt level isnt an indication of your ability to fight. It's not uncommon in any martial art for a lower rank or less experienced student to be able to beat some higher belts.
