How to practice for floor hockey try outs?
there coming up soon, idk when but i really want to make the team! im not the most competitive person and i have to practice alone, i have a hockey stick and an undersized tennis ball, no puck, theres snow all out side but i can practice in the basement + i have no nets.
How can i practice?
+ try out tips?
thanks!
This brings back a lot of great memories for me.
Firstly, what you want to do, is if you have walls in your basement, put some tape on them in the form of a net. Make sure these are walls that won't be damaged.
Secondly, most floor hockey teams use tennisballs or balls in the same form, pucks are mostly used in ice hockey so do not worry about having a tennis ball.
Thrid, try to practice your shot accuracy, strength does not matter as much if you are not going to get the puck towards the net. Place some "Xs" using tape on each corner of the tape net you made. Practice hitting those targets about five times each just to make sure you have your shot right. I highly reccomend that you do not practice slapshots as much since most floor hockey leagues do not allow those kind of shots.
Fourth, Practice your passing. Pick a spot somewhere in your basement and try to keep passing the puck towards that area. Again, try more for accuracy than strength, once you got the pass right, you can choose to pass the puck with more strength beign applied.
Finally, practice your ballhandling. Place some objects on the floor and just manouver around them using ur stick and ball. Try to keep your ball intact.
For try out tips, do not rush to look like a good player, take things slowly and precisely, but you do not want to take things too slow. If you end up scrimmaging in the tryouts, do not take shots unless you know they can end up towards the net leading to a goal. Do not ballhog and make smart choices for passing. Always look for the open guy.
Hope I helped
