How effective is this workout plan (weight-loss regimen)?

I'm looking to get back into peak shape, which I haven't been in since I stopped playing baseball competitively. I'm 225 lbs at 6'1.5" and 22 years old, so I'm in decent shape with a good fitness base, but I've gained 25 lbs over the past two years - not all of it muscle!

I've made lifestyle changes and improved my diet (fresh foods only, increased vegetable/fruit consumption, fish/chicken instead of red meat, 5 smaller meals per day and a TON of water). I've also come up with the following workout plan to hopefully maintain muscle mass while losing fat:

Warm-up/cool-down: 3x 3min rounds of heavy-bag work, 30s rest in between, stretch after cool-down.

With sandbags to work core/stabilizers:

A: Thrusters/Clean-and-press
B: Bent-over-rows/Rotating dead-lift
C: Lunges/Alternating shoulder lift-and-press

6 days /week (A,B,C,A,B,C) following the Tabata protocol to the point of failure, alternating the two exercises in each group.

Does this look effective/efficient?

It looks like your making major changes in your lifestyle which will get you can on track and will help in losing the fat you want and strengthening the muscle. You also have it planned out well by rotating your muscle groups.

On the blog below, the most recent post also has a workout routine that you can look at. Although, it mainly is working the ab areas you can incorporate a few of the moves in with what you are doing now.

This will give you a more rounded workout and will help you to blast away the calories.
